"On board the SS Ventura, cruising the Caribbean, a small select group of passengers were invited to dine at the Captain's table, and a very enviable group at that. All were in formal wear: men in neatly pressed tuxedos, women wearing flowing silk or glossy taffeta gowns in the brightest of colors. The tastefully set table beamed a welcome with arrangements of red American beauty roses, blushing orchids and plump round mums. The seating arrangements were indicated by name cards before each velvet chair. The couples engaged in casual conversation as they approached the dinner table. At the head of the colorful table, the Captain politely invited the women to be seated, and then the men. Suddenly all conversation ceased; all eyes were focused on the only vacant chair. A passenger was missing."
